Reading Football Practice Day 3. What We Need To Know

The Reading Blue Devils Football team held their 3rd practice of the year as they prepare for their 7 on 7 game at Goshen against Goshen. It is not only Goshen they will be facing in the 7 on 7, they will also face Goshen's Southern Buckeye Academic Athletic Conference Rival Williamsburg, and Eastern Cincinnati Conference foe Little Miami based out of Morrow Ohio. This year Reading will be led by a first-year starting quarterback Junior Charlie Hess who was the junior varsity quarterback last year for the Blue Devils, Hess is also responsible for defensive duties and takes care of punting duties this year. Hess is also a baseball star for Reading where he earned 2nd team all Cincinnati Hills League last season. Running backs will be led by Senior Austin Fancher and Junior Landen Schaefer. Fancher finished last year with 29 attempts for 368 yards and one touchdown, the lone rushing touchdown was against Lockland. He looks to grow and contribute this year on the offensive side of the ball for the Reading Blue Devils. Junior Landen Schaefer had a big productive year last year for the Blue Devils where he finished 7th in the league in rushing. He finished the season with 88 carries for 585 yards and 8 touchdowns. His career high for rushing touchdowns in a single game was 3 against Lockland. For the offensive line, Reading has their whole offensive line back with 1 change. Senior Blake Rasner will not be in the tackling position this year for the Blue Devils as his position has been changed to fullback. Rasner will still be on defense. Sophomore Jason Lunsford the son of assistant coach, Nick Lunsford has taken over snapping duties for the Blue Devils at center. Junior Connor Davis will certainly be one of the stars to look out for this season in the secondary as he finished tenth in the league in interceptions with two last year. Senior Patton Johnson is also a returning offensive lineman for the Blue Devils who on defense finished fourth in the league in sacks with five. He looks to improve this season as a key on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. As Luke Cripe enters his 2nd year, he wants to make sure this will be one of Reading's best and most highly anticipated seasons of them all. Reading looks to have a good season overall and they want to make this season a one to never forget. Reading travels out to Goshen for 7 on 7 at 10:00 am at Goshen High School (Weather Permitting).
